Irdning-Donnersbachtal has been a market town in the district of Liezen in Styria since the beginning of 2015. Irdning got its name from the river. The earliest written record is from 1180 and reads "iuxta fluuium Jedeniche". The name goes back to Old Slavic jedb (wildness, anger) because it is a raging torrent.
Donnersbach is also named after the river.
