Birgitz is a municipality with 1486 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Innsbruck-Land in Tyrol (Austria). The municipality lies in the judicial district of Innsbruck.The municipal area is located between Axams and Götzens. The main village of Birgitz is located on a low mountain terrace about ten kilometers southwest of Innsbruck, at the foot of the Kalkkögel with the 2404 m high Saile (Nockspitze). The Kristenhöfe farms on the other side of the Axamer Bach stream and the area along the mountain path to the Birgitzer Alm also belong to the municipality.
Culture and sights
Catholic Parish Church Birgitz Mariä Heimsuchung: The church was built in 1727/1728 in place of a smaller predecessor church by master builder Gallus Gratl in rococo style. The altars also date from this period. In 1970 the church was restored, the cemetery was extended and a mortuary chapel was built. An interior renovation of the church building followed in 2008.
Rätermuseum: The museum deals with the excavation site Hohe Birga.
