The Austrian municipality of Ainet with 931 inhabitants is located about 7 km northwest of Lienz in East Tyrol. The municipality is located in the judicial district of Lienz. Ainet is administratively divided into the three cadastral municipalities of Ainet, Alkus and Gwabl.
Culture and sights
Parish church Ainet: The Ainet parish church was probably already built in the Middle Ages and was enlarged from 1778 in the course of its elevation to the status of a vicarage church. The high altar dates from 1885 and shows the two church patrons Ulrich and Mark with a view of Mary with the Child. Next to the parish church stands the Widum from the 1770s.
Pilgrimage Church Gwabl Visitation of the Virgin Mary
St. Joseph's Chapel in Unteralkus was built in the 1850s and consecrated in 1859.
The Maria Chapel in Oberalkus was built or renovated shortly after in the 1860s. It houses an altar from the second half of the 17th century.
The Sacred Heart Chapel in Weiheburg was built in 1925/26.
Secular monuments in Ainet include the Weiherburg manor, built in 1607 by Sigismund Count von Wolkenstein, and a baroque residential house from the 16th century in the center of the village.
Natural monuments
Trees at the so-called Bierkeller: A group of trees consisting of sycamore maples, spruces, and summer and winter lime trees, designated as a natural monument in 1962.
