Trebesing is a municipality in the district of Spittal an der Drau in Carinthia. Trebesing is located in the Lieser Valley in Upper Carinthia not far from the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Salzburg Lungau and Carinthian Nockberge Biosphere Park, about 12 kilometers north of Spittal an der Drau.
Culture and sights
The Filial Church of St. Margaret in the north of Trebesing was mentioned in documents in 1307 and 1420, but fell into ruin in the 17th century (1676) and was further destroyed by fire in 1829. It was repaired in 1959/60.
According to an inscription above the portal, the Evangelical Church in Trebesing was built in 1842. It is a 4-axis hall building with a gable tower and round-arched windows.
Mallenthein Castle (also: "Malenthein") stands in Radl below the former Roman bridge. It was built in the 16th century as a hunting lodge of the Counts of Mallenthein (in 1604 Georg von Mallenthein an der Radl is mentioned as the owner). The building is a four-story, block-like structure with a steep hipped roof.
The ruins of a smelting furnace with a tall chimney in the Radlbach ditch bear witness to earlier mining. The facility, which partly dates back to the 18th century, consisted of two shaft furnaces and was most likely used for copper smelting.
There are three stone arch bridges (Eckbach, Hintereggenbach and Rachenbach) on the historic Roman road on the western slope of the Lieser Valley, which ran from Lieserhofen via Trebesing to Gmünd.
