Gitschtal (slow. Višprijska dolina) is a municipality with 1234 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2023) in the district of Hermagor and a mountain valley of the same name in the 
southwest of Carinthia (Austria). The municipality is located in the side valley of the same name, which is around 15 kilometers long. The valley stretches from the 
the town of Hermagor in a north-westerly direction. Its main river is the Gössering, which flows into the Gail south of Hermagor. 
The first documented mention of a Gitschtal village is that of Weißbriach from 1331. From the 16th century, precious metals and later iron ore were mined in the Gitschtal.
