Franking is a small community in the Innviertel region of Upper Austria near the border with Salzburg and Germany. The competent judicial district is the judicial district of Mattighofen, until 2004 the municipality belonged to the judicial district of Wildshut. To a modest extent, there has been tourism in the summer since the 1950s, and today Franking is the tourist center of the Seelentium region.
