Ehrwald is a municipality with 2620 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Reutte in Tyrol (Austria). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Reutte.Ehrwald lies at the foot of the Wetterstein Mountains with the 2962 m high Zugspitze, at the basin of the Lermooser Moos, a former swamp landscape.

    Every year on the weekend around St. John's Day (summer solstice, June 21), the imposing mountain scenery around the Ehrwald-Lermoos-Biberwier basin is transformed into a spectacular experience, unique in its kind, by the display of large figures made of thousands of incendiary devices as part of the traditional Solstice bonfires. The figures range from Christian symbolism, motifs from the plant and animal world to the depiction of complex images. The additional display of fire chains along the mountain ridges further enhances the overall dynamic. Since 2010, the mountain fire Ehrwald belongs to the Intangible World Heritage, as declared by UNESCO, on the Austria List (National Cultural Property).
