Au is a municipality dominated by tourism in the district of Bregenz in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg. Au is located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Bregenz in the rear part of the Bregenzerwald.

Culture and sights

Catholic Parish Church Au hl Leonhard: The parish church of St. Leonhard is surrounded by a walled cemetery in the NE. It was built in place of a chapel (had stood on this site since 1372) around 1390 in Gothic style. In 1788 the church was enlarged and baroqueized. From 1981 to 1983, the church was restored inside and out, and in 2008, the exterior of the church, including the tower and cemetery walls, was renovated, re-roofed with larch shingles (except on the east side), and the spire and tower cross were freshly gilded. Particularly worth seeing are the carved pulpit (18th century) and the stonework on the left side altar (1652, made of Auer marble). The high altar was built around 1890 by Marggraf and Bertle and the altarpiece "Guter Hirte" (Good Shepherd) is by Wendelin Moosbrugger. The church door bears a Vorarlberg coat of arms.

Baroque Builder Museum Au: The Baroque Builder Museum opened in 2021 and focuses on the work of the Au guild.

Kuratienkirche Rehmen: The church was built in 1664 and enlarged in the early 18th century. In 1717 the church was consecrated and expanded in 1934. In 2012, after 1962, a renovation of the onion tower including the belfry and gold ball was carried out again. Worth seeing are the high altar (around 1700) and the altarpiece "Holy Family" by the painter Wendelin Moosbrugger (his father Leopold Moosbrugger was one of the "Käsgrafen" from Rehmen) around 1800.
